Dr. Lisa Cook Confirmed to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors

Delta Sigma Theta celebrates the confirmation of Dr. Lisa Cook to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. Soror Cook is the first Black woman to be selected to serve on the Board throughout its 108-year history.  

As Professor of Economics and International Relations at Michigan State University, Soror Cook has dedicated her life’s work to economic research and equity. She was the first Marshall Scholar from Spelman College and received a second B.A. in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from Oxford University. She also received her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Berkley concentrated in Macroeconomics and International Economics.  

Soror Cook contributed greatly to the economics industry long before her appointment to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. She served on the faculty of Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government Deputy Director for Africa Research at the Center for International Development at Harvard University, and a National Fellow at Stanford University. 

Recently, her research areas centered around economic growth and development, innovation, financial institutions and markets, and economic history. 

Dr. Cook is also a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research and has authored several published articles and research papers. Her research can be found in the American Economic Review and the Journal of Economic Growth.
